Plum Blossoms in the Garden, Brush and Ink Welcoming Spring — “Ou Garden Plum Blossom Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition” Opens Today

Plum blossoms have long been praised as the “gentleman among flowers.”
Blooming alone in the cold, they do not compete with other flowers for spring.
Elegant and pure, each branch preserves its own integrity.
Chinese literati have entrusted steadfast virtue and lofty spirit
to this fragrance that proudly stands against the snow.

    On December 30,
the Suzhou Academy of Chinese Painting, together with Ou Garden, presents the
“Ou Garden Plum Blossom Painting and Calligraphy Exhibition.”
With plum blossoms as the medium, and the garden as the setting,
in the refined atmosphere of a classical garden,
a dialogue unfolds between brush, ink, and spirit.

Gardens are Suzhou’s most tender cultural spaces:
rocks, winding paths, whitewashed walls, and scattered shadows
reflect one another as time flows.
When plum blossoms enter the garden, natural beauty and human sentiment
mutually fulfill each other in quiet harmony.

    This exhibition gathers
plum blossom–themed works by artists of the Suzhou Academy of Chinese Painting.
Some depict sparse shadows on cold branches, others render the subtle fragrance drifting in the air.
Within each stroke of brush and ink, one sees both the continuation of the Wu School tradition
and contemporary expressions of the plum blossom’s spirit.

May visitors wander through the garden,
encountering plum shadows at each turn, and in the brushwork, feel the integrity of character.
Let this garden’s fragrance warm the winter,
and leave a serene and lasting memory at year’s end.
