From Street Vendor to Textile Tycoon: Liu Guojun’s Archival Legacy

    An 8‑minute video was published on December 18, 2024 on the official account of Jiangsu TV Public News Channel. Jointly produced by the Jiangsu Provincial Archives and Jiangsu Broadcasting Corporation, the program Treasures from the Archives revisits Jiangsu’s memories preserved in documentary heritage. This episode features Liu Guojun’s remarkable journey from street vendor to textile tycoon, preserved in the Dacheng Textile & Dyeing Co. archives.

    Liu Guojun (1887–1966) rose from humble beginnings as a street vendor to become a textile magnate and later Vice Governor of Jiangsu Province. His journey is preserved in the Dacheng Textile & Dyeing Co. Archives, spanning 45 years and over 13,000 records. These archives capture his entrepreneurial rise, innovations in textile manufacturing, resilience during wartime destruction, and eventual role in China’s socialist transformation. They stand as a vivid microcosm of modern Chinese industry and a testament to Liu’s enduring spirit of “serving the nation through industry.”
