Shen Yinmo (1883-1971)
Shen Yinmo was a calligrapher from Huzhou, Zhejiang. He studied in Japan and later became a professor at Peking University and Furen University. After 1949, he worked as deputy director of the Central Museum of Literature and History, chairman of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Committee, and representative of the Third National People’s Congress.
Shen Yinmo was well-known for his calligraphy skills, specifically in regular script, running script, and cursive script. He was particularly skilled in running script, and his style was influenced by Ou Kai, Beibei, Yu Shinan, and Chu Suiliang. His brushwork was graceful and natural, yet rigorous and smooth, reflecting the legacy of the Jin and Tang dynasties. This scroll of poems is an example of his work, showcasing his expertise in calligraphy.
沈尹默(1883~1971),原名君默,字中,号秋明,瓠瓜,祖籍浙江湖州。早年留学日本,后任北京大学教授和校长、辅仁大学教授。1949年后历任中央文史馆副馆长,上海市人民委员会委员,第三届全国人大代表等职务。以书法闻名,民国初年,书坛就有“南沈北于(右任)”之称。
沈尹默书法工楷书、行书、草书,尤擅行书。他初以欧楷为基,后学北碑,再从虞世南、禇遂良等上溯“二王”,终以“二王”为宗。此幅诗轴用笔秀润、法度严谨而又不失自然流畅,晋唐遗韵于此可鉴。
